2013 in Outfits

When I was thinking about the intro to this post for some reason the Destiny's Child Bootylicious line "I don't think you're ready for this jelly" came into my head! Maybe because after putting all of my monthly recaps together and being able to see all of the outfits that I styled, posed and published in one glimpse was a little overwhelming! Nevertheless, I want to give you the recap of all recaps! So let's begin!

January
It's crazy to think the last 2 outfits were published in separate National Magazines, People Stylewatch and Redbook Magazine, as well as being recreated by one of my readers (one of my biggest hightlights).

September
We marked the 1 year anniversary for SD Style Bloggers with a fun party at Shimmer and then more events ensued, but one of the biggest hightlights was becoming a Marshalls Project Fab member, a very organic collaboration since I always shop there!

October
And then Fashionweek SD struck like a whirlwind which was a fun way to experiment with looks that I usually wouldn't wear on a casual day in San Diego. I also had the opportunity to style a look for Westfield Mission Valley's "Paint the Night Pink" event benefiting Bright Pink. Then off to NYC!

Interchangeable: 1 Pink Coat, 1 Dress, 2 Ways

One of my blog's most important tasks is to give you ideas on how to wear pieces in different ways and to show you how versatile some pieces (especially if it means saving money in the end). We all know basics are versatile but what about those patterned dresses or colored coats that at first thought seem like a one time thing? Well, today I wanted to recap 3 looks that I have done on the blog that demonstrate 1) two ways to wear a pink coat from casual to dressy and 2) two ways to wear a mod dress from hot to cold!

Golden Holidays

I decided to do holiday glam for Christmas eve wearing this little gold dress I picked up at a local boutique and added a green toned sparkly necklace because you can't have enough sparkle on Christmas! I hope that you are all enjoying your Holiday season! Much love from my home to yours!

Pastel Holidays

Surprisingly, pastels (which are usually a staple in Spring) have been huge this Winter. I personally couldn't be happier because there is something so whimsical about pastels during the Holidays. I am even happier because I have teamed up with my fellow fashion blogger and sorority sister Theresa from Oh, Ivory to show you two ways to incorporate pastels into your Winter Outfit! Check out her blog here to see her take on this girly trend.

My Holiday Decor

'Tis the season to decorate the household! If you've been reading my blog for a while you know that I like to do themes each year, well this year (per boyfriend's request) I did a more traditional tree (vs. the Tiffany & Co., Luxe goldish or Ocean themed trees of years past). As I was shopping at Marshalls, I found the cutest decor, wrapping paper and ribbon in red, silver and burlap so I went with it. It also has little fun messages of Naughty and Nice! Enjoy!

Fur on Denim on Denim & (Surprise) GIVEAWAY!

Denim on denim has been a trend for a while now, but I seem to be a late bloomer to the d on d party because it has recently been my go-to for casual attire. Today my boot-lovin' self is wearing an outfit that demonstrates you don't always have to do the glitz and the glam for the Holidays (although I do love some of that too), you can simply sport your best denim and put on your comfiest boots- in my case these Naughty Monkey Fall Fever boots.

Christmas Tree Picking Outfit

'Tis the season to pick up a Christmas Tree! This is my boyfriend and I's 3rd year going to the same place to pick up a tree and it has become quite the tradition-we pretty much have the process down. We go in, we go to the same section in the back where they have the "flawed" trees at a reduced price and usually I go for the bigger fir tree of the bunch.

It's funny because this year's outfit is a mix of my past two: red coat that I wore in 2011's Christmas Tree picking, hunter boots that I wore in 2012's and jeans... it has become my go-to formula since it's comfortable to navigate the Christmas tree lot while being festive!

Date Night with Marshalls

There are so many options for date night in San Diego, but when Marshalls asked me to pick one place I instantly thought of Island Prime/ C Level that has a beautiful view of the San Diego skyline and the bay.

The next question for any girl is WHAT TO WEAR?! Well, Marshalls has you covered with their large array of on-trend, name brand dresses for way less than retail price! After trying on a few dresses, this Calvin Klein blue snake print dress that fit me like a glove was the winner. Since it's quite chilly, I also picked up these fleece lined opaque tights and added a faux leather jacket for extra warmth.

Find me in REDBOOK Magazine!

I usually don't write on Sundays, but I had to share these exciting news with you all! I was at Target yesterday shopping for Christmas gifs and I remembered receiving an email a few months back about an outfit I had posted on my blog, they had mentioned it could potentially be in Redbook Magazine for January in their chambray feature. As I was in the magazine section, I saw that the Redbook January issue was out and I literally started shaking as I perused the pages looking for the chambray section and…. there I was on Pg 58! This is my third time in a nationally published magazine which is exhilarating every time. It takes a lot of hard work to keep a blog consistent, especially when you have a 40hr+/week career (as most of you bloggers out there relate to) but it's moments like these that motivate me to push through the obstacles and keep going. I want to thank anyone who has visited my blog, for my frequent readers, and those who are so supportive- my love and positive vibes to you all!

Holiday Beauty with Neutrogena! #NTGHolidayBeauty

Please note that this is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Neutrogena and Latina Bloggers Connect, this post was created and written by me for lilbitsofchic.com and express my personal views and opinions.

This week I have been showing you some festive looks for the Holidays and before I show you some more, I wanted to take a beauty break to tell you about the Neutrogena products I have been using to complete my Holiday Looks!
Holiday season can also be traveling season, and when I traveled these last couple of months the Makeup Remover Cleansing Towelettes have always been in my luggage! Since it is essential to remove your make up before going to bed to make sure the dirt and oils of the day don't sit on your skin, these towelettes have been essential in helping me keep my skin healthy. To continue aiding my skin through the day, I like to use Neutrogena's Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup that has an exclusive antioxidant blend and is also lightweight and silky. I have a lot of Holiday parties and events after work and Neutrogena products like the Crease Proof Eye Shadow, Healthy Lengths Mascara, and Moisture Smooth Color Stick are perfect for a girl on the go like me! The Crease Proof Eye Shadow is pretty amazing with built-in primer and anti-oxidant formula for this sensitive area of the face and unlike other eye shadows, it comes in a tube which makes it easy to roll it on your eyelid and blend it if need be.
I'm a big fake eyelash fanatic, but that can really do damage to my natural eyelashes. Neutrogena's Healthy Lengths Mascara allows me to give my eyelashes a break while making them noticeable and lengthening them with an exclusive vitamin E and olive oil formula that deeply nourishes and strengthens lashes from the inside out. This Holiday season we can count on this chilly weather, winds and heaters to chap our lips, but that doesn’t mean you should sacrifice color for the colorless chap stick. The Moisture Smooth Color Stick not only has beautiful lip colors to choose from, but they instantly moisturize lips and conditions them.

With the hustle and bustle of the Holiday season, I'm so glad I can count on these products to beautify me while nourishing my skin, my eyelashes and my lips!

Glaming up the Ugly Christmas Tee

Every fashion blogger loves a good challenge so when Skip N Whistle asked me to style their "Ugly Christmas Sweater" Tee for a second year in a row, I happily accepted that challenge. Last year I opted for one of their more conservative designs with reindeer prancing around (see here), but this year I said "bring on the unicorns!" Mind you, They also have cats, dinosaurs, among other hilarious designs which are the whole point to Ugly Sweaters- they are supposed to be funny! But how do you make such a hilarious tee wearable? First, I drew from the pop of red in the shirt and matched both my lipstick (which has become my favorite holiday lip shade) and shoes to it. I also kept the rest of my outfit in denim so that the tee could be the star. Lastly, I added a touch a glamour with a sparkly necklace and voilà- ready to hit up an Ugly Christmas Party and still feel cute!

Now you can get your Ugly Sweater on at Skip N Whistle where they are offering my readers 20% off from now until December 25th with promo code SANTA. Enjoy!

Also, make sure to check out the video below as we strut our stuff (lol).

For my outfit, I wore a metallic dress-coat over another dress with tights as a glamorous approach to dressing up in the cold weather. I stuck to silver accessories and shoes to keep the metallic theme going and added the perfect Holiday lip color, red.

Geometric Dress

One of my go-to combos when wearing black and white is adding a statement necklace in a bold color, so it was no surprise when I paired this dress that I picked up at our SD Style Bloggers Glam Party at Emma Jane with this turquoise necklace for Thanksgiving dinner and instantly loved it!

Add also that I find geometric printed anything really intriguing- it always makes me look twice because of the intricate print or optical illusion- in fact, I just picked up some pants in a similar pattern during a black Friday sale, so stay tuned for that! Happy Friday!!

La Familia de Hoy

Please note that this is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Johnson & Johnson and Latina Bloggers Connect, this post was created and written by me for lilbitsofchic.com and express my personal views and opinions.

Meet the Jiménez family, a beautiful family with active kids that love playing soccer. They are one of three families competing for Johnson & Johnson and Univision's "Familia de Hoy" a campaign to find an authentic, modern and active family. Out of the 3 families you can vote for, the Jiménez family was my favorite because it was the family I identified with the most. For one, they are very connected to family, in fact they live right next to more family! It reminds me of how I refuse to leave my area of town because my immediate family is all right here, less than 10 minutes away. Growing up I have had the opportunity to move away to attend college or study abroad and I never did because I'm so attached- I call my mom and sister for practically anything! As I think about my future and potentially having kids, I cannot fathom the idea of being too far from my family.

Secondly, Juan the father of the family is a Mexican-American financial advisor (as was I at one point) and his wife Biviana is transitioning from being a stay-at-home mom to working in Juan's financial business. They show the entrepreneurial spirit of a modern family that is trying to make a better life for their family.

To me, a "Familia de Hoy" is a family that evolves together. Nowadays, it's so easy to be torn apart by distance, problems, disagreements but a Familia de Hoy does everything to stay together and help each other out both emotionally and financially. One thing that is admirable in the 3 nominated families is that they are all working hard to provide a better life for their kids and are supportive of their kids and their love for soccer.

Plaid with Edge + GIVEAWAY!

Happy Monday! After taking a week off of blogging (vacationing physically and mentally), I'm back reinvigorated with new outfits, holiday ideas and for starters, a giveaway!

As the holiday season rolls around, the red and green plaids are all the rage, but today I'm approaching plaids in a different way. For one, this top is an unusual mix of colors and it has a cozy interior that serves well as a layering piece. I decided to go the edgy route (vs. the cozy route) and edged it up with these over the knee boots. I kept my jewelry simple with this dainty branch necklace from Blue Nile which complemented the outfit perfectly! Y'all know I love me a good statement necklace, but dainty necklaces are just as fab because they are chic and not overbearing on an already loud outfit.

Now Blue Nile and I want to give YOU one of these dainty branch necklaces in sterling silver, for a chance to win it or get 10% off your purchase, see the end of this post.

Women Rise Above It

Please note that this is a compensated campaign in collaboration with Latina Bloggers Connect and the makers of Pine-Sol® Products, this post was created and written by me for lilbitsofchic.com and express my personal views and opinions.

The makers of Pine-Sol® Products have teamed up with Latina actress Rosie Perez to launch the 'When Life Gets Tough, Women Rise Above It' Campaign celebrating women who rose above their struggles. This subject got me to think about my biggest struggles in a low income community and how I rose above many obstacles to be the first one in my family to get a Bachelor’s degree.

Trench on Black

Happy Wednesday! As you can see, I simply cannot stop wearing this two tone trench from Lulu's.com. It's one of those jackets I tend to grab as I run out the door! That's exactly what happened on this gloomy day when the boy and I went to catch a movie and I realized I was wearing all black. I tossed on the trench and these aviators which made me feel kind of sleek. Also, a lot of the elements to this outfit are comfortable- the coated pants, a cotton tunic underneath, and the booties that have no heel which proves that you don't have to compromise comfort for style.
