Amidst the Pumpkins

Happy Halloween!! I usually dress up, but I'm that kind of person that I either go all out or do nothing at all. Unfortunately, this year I decided to sit this Halloween out, but you can see my past Halloween costumes here

My family, boyfriend and I made a trip out to the local pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins while watching my niece and nephew enjoy the festive rides. Being surrounded by all of these pumpkins gave me that holiday feeling and made me realize that Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner (yikes!) Time flies, so maybe I should start Christmas shopping already?! Scary thought (no Halloween pun intended).
*Thank you to my sister for the pics, she getting good!

Camo Chic & Burgundy Velvet

As you may have already seen, the military trend had a huge presence all over the runways and now into the blogosphere. In particular the camo print which has now combined with my favorite trend: printed jeans. I must admit, I was unsure on how to dabble in this trend at first until I saw these jeans at Target (yes, I said Target!) for less than $30! I figured I would give this trend a shot by pairing it with one of my favorite recent purchases, these shoes from Lulu*s. These shoes manage to combine 3 big trends for fall: velvet, ankle straps and the color burgundy. I put it together to go out to dinner with my boyfriend and I loved the outcome. I hope you do too!

*Update: Also entered this look in Flor de Maria Fashion, Nany's Klozet and Ashes into Fashion "Camo" Challenge! Here!

Burgundy & Leather for Andaz Event

Last week, the lovely Rachel from Da Paura asked me to join her for the "Art and Fashion Collide" event at the Andaz Hotel in downtown San Diego. It started with a cozy setting in the Andaz Wine bar surrounded by abstract art on display and local fashionistas.

We were then escorted to the club area downstairs where we were treated to a fashion show from Maceoo, a local menswear designer (woo hoo for local!). Maceoo showcased an array of men's collared shirts with cool patterned lapels and cuffs. Pictures of the show below, but first what I wore!

My Mahal Style Video Feature!

It's here!! My video feature with Mahal Style and I couldn't be more thrilled with the outcome!

Colorful & Fun Looks

Happy Sunday!! I wanted to share with you the last of my Mahal Style photos because tomorrow they will be debuting my video feature!! I'm so excited and nervous at the same time!

Touch of Denim

This hi-low hem, sheer dress has been a go-to dress of mine because of its versatility. You have seen it in in past blog posts dressed up for dinner here and layered here. In this outfit, I wanted to change it up and make it more casual by simply adding a denim vest. This outfit then screamed "give me a pop of color!" which I did with the "futuristic" neon pink necklace and matching lip color. I hope you like it! I will be showing you the remaining looks that I shot with the talented Minh from Mahal Style for the next few days leading up to a video feature about me on Monday!! Let the countdown begin!! (eek! I'm kinda shy!!)

Minty Comfort

San Diego weather has been playing with our emotions and today it's supposed to go up to a high of 93 degrees! Fall where are you?

Mint was all the rage over summer and I've been noticing its transition into fall. I'm looking forward to transitioning pastels into fall/winter by pairing the colors with darker colored cable knit sweaters, scarves and boots. For now, I just want to show you a girly outfit that I styled for my Mahal Style Photo shoot right before I left for Chicago. I was focused on making outfits comfortable since I would be doing a lot of walking in the city, yet I wanted to remain stylish ;)

Contrast Lapel & Neon

Happy Monday! This week I will be posting the rest of the looks I shot with Mahal Style! All of these looks are leading up to a video about me that was shot in conjunction with these pictures as I "posed" to my dance playlist (a lil Kaskade, Calvin Harris) and also an interview for you all to get to know me a little better. More on that to come, but for now here is this outfit that I put together!

Ever since I bought this contrast lapel blazer (pre-Gangnam Style days might I add), I've had so much fun adding it to random pieces. I figured it would go well with this neon yellow top and some dressy black shorts for a night out. Since the black lapel plays off of the shorts to make it feel like a short suit, you can change up the color of the shirt as an alternative.
About the Outfit:
Blazer: Charlotte Russe ($43 similar here)
Top: H&M (similar)
Shorts: Forever 21

Fashion Week SD Fashion Shows

The press conference, the previews, the pre-events all lead up to a momentous occasion for the fashion community in San Diego. You have heard me talking about Fashion Week San Diego since my interview with the founder Allison back in April to the more recent events, all of which made me ecstatic to finally attend the fashion shows and see these talented designers.

The main event was held at the a prime location in the Gaslamp, The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. The runway set up in the same area where "Intervention" and its famous DJ's usually rock the house, but this time Fashion rocked the house! Each designer had a unique take within their 10 look collection: From the casual colorfulness of Noia, to gorgeous jewelry pieces, to amazing gowns from both Kenneth Barlis and Andre Soriano, all of the designers shined in their own way. Throughout the event, attendees were able to vote for their favorite designer using the Fashion Week SD app on their smart phone.

It was so hard to narrow the pictures down to my favorite looks, but if you want to see more looks and pictures from the event I have added them to an album on my facebook page (here).

Let's Talk #DoveInspired

Dove continues to be a pioneer in redefining beauty and self-love. Their #DoveInspired campaign and their aim at young girls is why I wanted to take part in this campaign. I was astounded when I heard these findings from their studies:
  • “72 percent of girls (ages 10-17) feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful [1]”
  • “Only 11 percent of girls (ages 10-17) are comfortable using the word beautiful to describe themselves[2]”
  • “When girls feel bad about their looks more than 60 percent globally (age 15 to 17) avoid normal daily activities such as attending school, going to the doctor, or even giving their opinion[3]”
via Pinterest
Girls are listening – we, as women, need to start the conversation and plant the seed with younger girls who need that guidance.

When I was asked “how would you talk to a young girl about beauty and self-esteem?” I flashed back to when I was that age and how I felt about my appearance. I too fell under that 89% of little girls who wouldn't feel comfortable saying I was beautiful. It wasn't until I was older and more educated that I realized that “beautiful” is not defined by appearance. Looking back, my source of confidence started coming from my education because it remained my priority and it felt good to be good at something. Accomplishing those goals at school boosted my confidence which in turn allowed me to be myself and stand by my own opinions.

My advice to young girls is that beauty is better defined by who you are inside and how kind you are to others and enjoying your childhood. It's not about the clothes you wear or your appearance. What makes us beautiful is being ourselves, not following in the footsteps of celebrities or the “cool girl” at school. Empower yourself with an education, because the power of the brain and hard work will take you further than a mirror!

It’s a concept that as a young girl you might not realize but trust in an elder who has been through it and take our advice: You are beautiful!

Art & Beauty Behind Fashion

Happy Monday! It's been a great weekend of events and news, but it's back to reality! *womp, womp*

Last Wednesday I attended Fashion Week San Diego’s “The Art & Beauty behind Fashion” Event at the W. The event featured talented RAW, Hair and Makeup Artists showcasing their art inspired by parts of San Diego. The ambiance was superb as I was surrounded by fashionable people who dared to take risks on their fashion choices.

San Diego may not be known for fashion, but that doesn't mean we don’t have a fashion community. I felt the sense of community strengthen while meeting bloggers, designers, entrepreneurs, as well as seeing familiar faces all of us different, but sharing the same love for fashion!  Fashion Week San Diego was a great starting point for us and for that I want to thank the organizers Allison and Aimee. Also, the wonderful photographer behind my photo shoot, MahalStyle, debut a behind the scenes mini film about Fashion Week. All of their videos on the designers leading up to the events were very inspiring (check them out here!)

OMG! Find me in Lucky Magazine (Oct 2012 issue!)

Happy Sunday!! About 2 months ago I was contacted by Lucky Magazine asking if they could include a picture they had seen from me on the Lucky Community in their November Issue. After re-reading the email 10 times in disbelief I said OF COURSE!! Here I am 2 months later waiting anxiously! This morning as I was purchasing some bacon and a croissant for this morning's breakfast, I see it the new Lucky Magazine (with fellow Latina Sofia Vergara on the cover) by the cash register! I anxiously opened it and when I saw myself in this magazine I truly admire, I almost cried and let out an "OMG" out loud.

I've developed my career in financial services and never thought I would be doing something like this on the side, but now that I am doing it I understand what it is to be passionate. My advice to you: It's never too late!

Thank you to everyone who has read, visited, commented and especially to those who have clicked the "follow" button on my blog from the bottom of my heart!

Burgundy Break

Happy Friday! It's been Fashion Week for us San Diegans and on Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending the "Beauty meets Art" event at the W. It was so invigorating to be surrounded by local artsy and fashionable people! The recap and pictures of the events to come, as well as the continuation of my Mahal Style photoshoot!

Today I wanted to take a break from all of the hot weather clothes and bring in some burgundy! Many of us in So Cal are experiencing an odd heatwave and for that I have not been able to delve into the rich darker toned fall clothes and boots, but on this day I decided to wear this paired with a burgundy lip for lunch with the boy in an air conditioned restaurant.

Blushin' Florals

Happy halfway through the work week! My lookbook with the talented Minh from Mahal Style continues and I'm excited to show you this third look! I love this top (as I had expressed here) and I also love these floral jeans! Suffice to say that pairing these together makes me love this outfit infinitely. The airiness of the shirt and the pale colors of the whole outfit is so girly and perfect for a nice Sunday brunch!

About the Outfit:
Top: Forever 21
Floral Denim: Delia's (similar here)
Shoes: Target (similar here)
Cuff: Tory Burch ($45 here)
Watch: Michael Kors (here)
For all of my fellow San Diegan Fashionistas, I know we are amidst the wonderful events of Fashion Week San Diego, but I also wanted to let you know of another great event coming up!

The witty and fashionable Stacy London from "What not to Wear" has written a new book "The Truth About Style" and will be doing a book signing at Warwicks in La Jolla! This book goes beyond the surface of fashion and delves into the root and struggles of personal style. If you want to know more about the book I was sold on it with this interview on the Today Show

See the flyer for more info. Hope to see you there!
☮, ♥ & Thanks for Stopping by!

Printed Blazer Suit

Happy Monday Everyone! Here is the second look from my photoshoot with Mahal Style.

This one is my going out to dinner look, keep in mind that here in San Diego it's supposed to hit 100 degrees today, so shorts might be a reasonable option! I'm really loving printed blazers because they jazz up an outfit, especially when they have small bursts of color like this one. I decided to pair it up with these black slack material shorts to make it seem like a short suit. Hope you like it and have a great day!
