Chillin' in Green

Another Monday, another eventful weekend that passed. On Saturday, I went to my cousin's son's 1st birthday party a.k.apiƱata and kicked it with the familia. I just wanted to be casual, eat some nachos and take some pictures of one of my favorite babies (which are included below for your awww'ing pleasure). Hope you all have a terrific week!

Black and White Volunteer

I can't believe (but happy that) the week has gone so quickly! On Tuesday, I attended a volunteer orientation for Fashion Week San Diego. San Diego has been without a fashion week since 2008, so when I heard it was going to be revived this year I knew I had to be involved. After interviewing the founder Allison a few months back for Lil bits of Chic, it was so nice to finally meet her in person! She oozes the passion she has for this project and listening to her was very inspirational and motivating. My fellow volunteers were also inspirational, among them Kellyn from feNa handbags, check out her handbags they are gorgeous!

For the orientation, I wanted to stay comfortable, yet chic. My outfit was inspired by these newly acquired houndstooth loafers that I'm obsessed with (hence the black and white). Of course, I had to add a pop of color to liven it up!

Ethnic Prints with Rachel Roy

A few weeks ago I entered a Pinterest contest inspired by Rachel Roy and Seu Jorge's fashion collaboration about Brasil. I was ecstatic to see a comment from Rachel Roy, a fashion designer I truly admire, informing me that I was one of the lucky winners!!

I arrived to a lovely package at my doorstep and inside was a handwritten note from Rachel Roy with this signature tee from their Brasil collection. This tee can be worn in so many different ways, but I decided to stick with the cultural prints and laid back approach in honor of their ethnic collaboration which can be seen here. Hope you like it and thanks for stopping by!

Ethical Style with Future:Standard & $75 giveaway! *closed*

I'm really excited to post about Future: Standard, an online boutique based out of San Diego that sells ethical clothing and accessories. Ethical meaning that they take into consideration if the piece is eco-friendly, locally made, using fair trade, is respectful to the environment and the people who make the item. I love that this boutique is not only stylish but it is earth and human conscious.

Today, I am so honored host a

Bold Colors at Ann Taylor Event

Yesterday, I had the honor of attending a private event to celebrate the new Fashion Valley Ann Taylor concept store hosted by San Diego Magazine. What's new at Ann Taylor? Their store was updated to be more contemporary in design but yet homely for an optimized shopping experience. I had always associated Ann Taylor with professional-wear since my mentor took me there to buy me my first business suit, but I was pleasantly surprised to see an infusion of color and youthfulness into their collections. I also love that their pieces are sophisticated and chic for women of all ages. It was such a fun experience to not only hang out with fellow blogger Rachel, but also meeting fellow bloggers and other great people at the event while sippin' on some champs... so for that, Thank you Ann Taylor and San Diego Fashion Mag!!

Tuxedo Blazer for Special Event

Today is a big day in San Diego as the horse race season begins with Opening Day at the Del Mar Racetrack! I have been attending this event for the last 5 years but because of work obligations, this year I will be unable to attend *tear* I will, however, be going a few times this season to place a quinella bet (I don't even know what quinella actually is, but I like to use the term because it makes me sound like a sophisticated gambler). The big thing on Opening Day, aside from the shenanigans, is wearing a big hat or (more popular after the royal wedding) a fascinator. You can see what I've worn in the past here to get a better idea of how fun it is to dress up for this event.

Usually a week before Opening Day, girls are scrambling for hats and the supply of hats in San Diego takes a huge dip! Last Thursday, Shopaholics Boutique did a great job not only supplying hats, but showing gorgeous ways in which to wear them in their Hat & Dress for the Races Party. The added bonus, my fellow blogger and my San Diego Style Bloggers partner, Rachel modeled some adorable looks.  Here's what I wore for the event... and most importantly, below are my favorite looks of the night!

Ombre Fringe

Happy Monday!! I feel like I didn't get a lot of rest this weekend as I had some "social obligations". I totally made partying sound like a serious activity huh? On Saturday, we celebrated my friend's last days as an unmarried woman by going downtown to dance. This dress from Zara has dancing written all over it! The ombre fringe makes it unlike any other LBD! and can we talk about these shoes from Fancy Steps for a hot-second?! I love how my foot looks like it's magically keeping a cap toe and heel on!

The first picture is me celebrating the The Pop of Chic necklace giveaway winner who just so happens to be announced at the end of this post!!

Lions, Floral & Coral... oh my!

As my Chicago outfits come to a close, I wanted to share with you the last outfit. These white with coral trim All Star girly converse were a staple in my trip because they were so comfy!! I Instagram'd them (here) because I was amazed that it came with 4 different shoe-lace choices!

On this day, I wish we calculated how many miles we walked because to me it seemed like 10, diminishing the guilt from eating 3 slices of deep dish pizza. We went to Lincoln Park to check out a few animals at the free zoo before walking over to "lake" Michigan. I say lake in quotations because I was in disbelief that it was a lake! You couldn't see the end of it, very reminiscent of when I look out at our Pacific Ocean here in San Diego. We continued the activities in the form of a car ride with pit stops at cool areas in town such as the beautifully named Paulina St *wink, wink* Hope you enjoy my outfit & pictures! Thank you for stopping by!

Bright Tourist

My anecdote to staying fashionable and comfy while walking a gazillion miles in the 90 degree weather of Chicago was 1) bright clothing 2) sheer sleeveless tops 3) printed shorts 4) gladiator sandalsYou will also notice that I am carrying around a useless jean jacket (boo!) From this I learned: if the forecast says high 90's, you better believe it and leave the jacket at home!

On this day, we went sightseeing: Buckingham Fountain, Millenium Park (home of the Bean), the 95th floor of the John Hancock building, Architecture Tour in the river, and shopping!! I had to take advantage of Zara since we don't have one in San Diego... yet.  I had such a great time, and for that I have to thank my bff Sarai for being an amazing hostess and having that over-planner mentality that is very efficient! I also included a bonus outfit where I wore the same top out to the rooftop called "Roof Top" (so creative!) at The Wit, then the bar at the top of the Trump Building and ending the night at the Hubbard Inn. Hope you like it :)

Hot Ballin'

It's been all over the news how the East Coast is amidst a heat wave, so I had to plan accordingly when packing for Chicago. We're talking high 90's into the 100's... eek! Plus my friend warned me we would be doing a lot of walking! double- Eek! I knew that most of my outfits, if not all, had to be lightweight fabrics, dresses or shorts paired with comfortable shoes (in fashionable terms: cute sandals and converse).

On this day, we went to Wrigley Field to experience a Cubs game! It's so exciting to see a classic stadium with the good ol' scoreboard. I was debating on what to wear because it was going to be MEGA hot and we would be sitting out in the sun while watching the game. It made me wonder about sports and fashion: how do you dress to a sporting event? For me, I want to be cute but not too blah and that compromise came in this peek-a-boo shoulder loose cotton top and these cute print cotton shorts both lightweight and allowed air to flow in.

Chi Town Leopard

First of all, thank you to all of you who have entered my Pop of Chic giveaway thus far, if you haven't you may still do so (here!).

So I'm back to life, back to reality after a wonderful week in Chicago. When I bought my plane ticket to Chicago my best friend immediately made reservations at RPM (Giuliana and Bill Rancic's restaurant). We knew the restaurant was gorgeous so we dressed up for the occasion. My best friend was able to do this high bun on me (after my many failed attempts) which I loved! After enjoying delicious fried olives, Giuliana's salad and lobster ravioli we went next door to the exclusive nightclub "Underground" where we danced the night away almost like we used to when I would visit her in Vegas. I had such a great time! We've been good friends since high school, but we're more like sisters now. It's hard to visit her because I always pretend she still lives 10 minutes away ;) I dedicate this post to best friends and especially mine, Sarai! Love you Sarai!
