Insta-Holidays!

If you follow me on Instagram (@lilbitsofpau) you have probably noticed that I have been posting a lot of pictures these past few days. I attribute my "Insta-happiness" to the various social gatherings, presents, holiday outfits, FOOD, Christmas Shopping, and all that a Holiday Season entails! To say that I haven't had a full night's sleep these past few weeks is an understatement because I chose to not take any days off from work and there are so many commitments! Nevertheless, even sleep deprived I push myself because I really enjoy those moments I get to spend time with those I love, friends who are visiting out of town, doing those traditions with my family that I will cherish forever, etc.

I feel so blessed and I thank God every night for all of these blessings, there's not a day I take these moments for granted. May your Holiday Season be filled with love, laughter, happiness, good food!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Tee!

Ugly Christmas Sweater Parties have become all the rage, and even though it is about "ugly" sweaters it doesn't necessarily mean that your whole outfit has to be! Better yet, Skip N' Whistle, a feel-good lifestyle brand based out of New Orleans, have these hilarious Ugly Christmas Sweater T-shirts, some even have Christmas unicorns and festive dinosaurs! I chose a more traditional design in a women's size which is comfortably fitted and I paired it up with some faux leather, spikes from Tanya Kara Jewelry and a must-have for the holiday party season, this clutch by feNa. Make sure to check out Skip N' Whistle's website and Facebook to see their current sale on these and other non-Christmas funny T's!

Have a Great Christmas Eve!

Holiday Looks from Coast to Coast

'Tis the Season for dressing up, being with family and friends and what better way to share the spirit of coming together than with a collaboration with some of my other favorite bloggers from the West Coast to the East Coast! This is a great way to show diverse looks in different temperatures. Make sure to check out these fashionistas & follow their wonderful blogs and instagrams!
From Left to Right:
Naty from A Love Affair with Fashion based out of New York/ New Jersey Area shows off a gorgeous Navy dress with great details accessorized with pops of color.

'Tis me! based out of Sunny San Diego, California wearing this little black dress with sequin patterns that has been in my closet for ages! It's one of those dresses I can't let go of because it doesn't go out of style. I added a faux fur coat and opulent accessories to give it a Gatsby vibe (can I just say, I'm anxiously waiting for that damn movie to come out already!).

Daisy from Daisy's Fashion Garden based out of the Bay Area, California brings a whimsical feel in this flowy rose dress with gold accents.

Melissa from Melissa's Sweet Style based out of New Jersey brings such elegance with a gorgeous print blazer and touches of red.

My Ocean Themed Christmas Tree

Hi Everyone! I have been battling a nasty cold for almost a week and it has really thrown a wrench in my holiday looks posts, but hopefully I'll get back to it soon :) For now, I wanted to show you my Ocean themed Christmas Tree! The blue and silver ornaments were borrowed from my sister and the ocean ornaments are from Kohl's (thank you Kohl's for your amazing sales and coupons!). 'Tis the season!

Holiday Party Look 1: For the Office

As we get bombarded with holiday parties, let's remember that one of the funnest parts is dressing up! That is why starting today I will be blogging Holiday Party Looks starting with this one which is perfect for the office.

As you may recall from this previous post, I wore this dress to my friends' wedding and decided to bring it out for another spin. To change up the look, I layered this blouse and blazer over it, added some tights to keep warm and of course the holiday sparkle via this gorgeous Fena clutch in "fairy dust"! Layering over fit and flare dresses is easy because of the proportions and can make a patterned dress like this one versatile.  Hope you enjoy this look, and hope this inspires you to bring out an ol' dress out of the closet that you can layer over! Stay tuned for more Holiday looks!

Flashback Holiday Looks!

I love this season, not only because of the holiday parties, socializing, gift-giving and festiveness, but because it's yet another opportunity to dress up! Last Holiday season was my first one while being a blogger and I wanted to look back at all of those holiday outfit posts to reminisce and inspire myself for this season. Here are my faves!

Plaid and Hunter Boots to pick out a tree!

I love the whole Christmas tree experience, from picking it out, to decorating it, to taking pictures of Coco in front of it... ah, I love this time of year! Ever since I have been living on my own (and now with the boyrfriend but he has no say in it hee hee), I love doing themed Christmas trees because it's kind of like styling or dressing up your tree! Two years ago it was Tiffany & Co, last year it was black, white and gold and this year I decided to do an under the sea theme! I really loved the outcome and I will of course post pictures of it here on the blog, but for now there's a sneak peek over on my Instagram!

Here is what I wore to pick out our tree, a comfy and "lumberjackie" look!

Sharing is Caring with #KleenexSWS

It's not only Holiday Season, but sadly it's also cold & flu season *womp womp* and a lot of people around me are sniffling! Luckily, I have not gotten sick this season *knock on wood* but let me confess that ever since I have been living on my own, I act like a total baby when I get sick.

My remedy: Jammies all day, holed up in my house, with my Kleenex (essential to not agitate my nose), anxiously waiting for my mom to deliver me the goods... sopa de fideo! As of more recent years, my boyfriend brings me a bag of medicine, vitamins and all those drug-store must haves. Then, I bug my sister who works for doctors, by letting her know the gazillion symptoms I am feeling (but mainly to whine about the darn sickness to somebody- Sorry Sister!) I am blessed to be able to depend on my family that lives nearby and in some cases it’s not the medicine that makes me feel better, it’s the thoughtfulness.

That is why I thought Kleenex’s Share Pack are not only essential for you when you are sick, but are also a thoughtful gesture to someone you love when they are in need. Plus, Kleenex also has a Care Pack  that you can send to someone who lives far away! It contains little things that we are in desperate need of when we are sick like Kleenex, lip balm and antibacterial. This cold and flu season, don't forget to share the softness of Kleenex!

Houndstooth & Peplum for Blogger Meet up!

This past Friday, I had the wonderful opportunity of co-hosting a San Diego Style Blogger Meet-Up at Bubbles Boutique in downtown San Diego. It came down to the wire in picking this outfit because it was chilly and rainy out, plus I had the pre-event jitters and I couldn't think straight! I finally decided on this houndstooth tie-front top (previously worn here) and layered this sparkly peplum top which I love! I added these hot pink dangly earrings to give it a tiny pop of color and some black skinnies for comfort.

Despite the rain, we had a great turn out of bloggers! Vava Vida, local designers and the Bubbles boutique staff were on hand to show us their gorgeous products and also treated us to goodie bags and raffles.  It was so great to mingle and connect with fellow bloggers! We were supposed to finish up around 9 p.m. but the event ran until 10 because we were all having too much fun! I want to thank all of the great people that came out to support, as well as my SD Style Blogger partner Rachel who was there in spirit (you were greatly missed!) Burgundy and Gold for a Merry Gathering

It's the most wonderful time of the year! To get into the Holiday spirit, a couple of weeks ago my sister, the kids and I went to Balboa Park for a Grinch tree lighting.  The tree was gorgeous and very Whoville!

As we waited we took some pictures, warmed up with some hot cocoa and enjoyed some gingerbread cookies. It was so adorable to see the kids be so excited when the Grinch came out to light the tree and it made me feel nostalgic remembering being a kid counting down the days 'til Christmas! After the tree lighting, fake snow trickled down upon us from the machines because you know us San Diegans don't see any real snow here... ever!

Winterizing Floral Bottoms

Last time I styled these floral bottoms, I was inspired by Spring/Summer and I had paired it with the brightest orange peplum top. Now, with the temperatures dropping and winter fast approaching, I decided to "winterize" these pants by playing off of the gray color scheme. I really liked the details of this outfit because they are so girly, but I couldn't help but feel like I was straight out of an episode of Gossip Girl (season 1-2). In any case, this is just a reminder that you don't have to put your floral bottoms away! Rock them this Winter by pairing them with a sweater!

With tomorrow being Thanksgiving I wanted to tell you all THANK YOU for viewing, commenting, following and supporting this blog of mine. I never expected for it to become what it has and the support I have gotten has continued to fuel my passion in making this blog the best it can be! *virtual hug to you all* May you all have a great Thanksgiving!

And now, let's briefly talk about the Outfit! I've been wanting a graphic tee for some time but I didn't want to buy one with a random saying on it, so when I saw this one I blurted "sold!" out loud. I wanted to dress it up to emphasize the "Just Chic" message so I paired it up with gold and black!

Spiked Moto

Hope you are all having a great weekend so far! Here is my first outfit with this Spiked Moto Jacket and trust me you will be seeing a lot of it this this fall/winter! Not only do I love how it adds some edge, but it was so hard for me to find it!

I initially saw this jacket at my local Forever21 store about 3 months ago and was amazed by the fit and details when I tried it on, but decided to hold off 'til Payday to buy it... big mistake! When I went back 3 days later- it was gone! It was also sold out online and I frantically looked for it at 3 separate locations. Don't you hate when you can't get a product out of your head? or is it just me being a shopaholic? I gave up and about 3 weeks ago it came back in stock! I bought it then and there, $38, you can't beat the price... but *sigh* it's sold out again...

Fall Textures

As the leaves turn brown and the weather cools off, it's finally time to bust out the faux fur vest (last worn here)! I love the concept of playing with textures because when an outfit is lacking in color, it can shine in textures. In this outfit, I chose to layer a Faux Fur vest over a chambray top paired with faux leather pants and faux leather booties, all of which have become very popular textures every fall & winter. To top it off, this outfit was really cozy and comfortable! Hope you like it and have a great Wednesday!

Burgundy Leopard

I'm still getting used to the time change and fighting for some daylight, hence the darker pictures in this post but in my defense it was 5 o'clock! Dressed in burgundy from head to toe is a huge trend right now so I decided to put on as much burgundy as I could, but I broke up the outfit with these leopard jeans that also have a hint of burgundy in them. This is what I wore to spend some quality time with my cousin as we enjoyed some Thai food at Rama in downtown San Diego. Can you believe I hadn't had curry before?! Yes, my cousin was appalled too, but she was kind enough to get the less spicy one so I could try it. Thanks Prima ;)

Also, Happy Veterans Day! Thank you for protecting our country, may God Bless you & your family!

Classy Cream & Black

I was so happy to attend a "Gender Reveal Party" for dear friends of mine. They were going to reveal what they were expecting by biting into a cupcake filled with: blue frosting if it was a boy or pink if it was a girl... and it's going to be a girl! Such a fun event! It's great to have those long lasting friendships where you witness each other go through new life stages *tear* Anywho, I wanted to go comfy and neutral so this is what I wore!

Casual Grays

Although it's technically been fall here in San Diego for some time, it is finally starting to feel like it! I couldn't be happier to welcome fall than with these gorgeous Naughty Monkey "Risk It" boots. Not only are they comfortable, but they conceal the heel (a la Givenchy boots or Sneaker wedges). With these cool buckle details and a touch of slouchyness, they are perfect for a casual day of running errands.

Amidst the Pumpkins

Happy Halloween!! I usually dress up, but I'm that kind of person that I either go all out or do nothing at all. Unfortunately, this year I decided to sit this Halloween out, but you can see my past Halloween costumes here

My family, boyfriend and I made a trip out to the local pumpkin patch to pick out our pumpkins while watching my niece and nephew enjoy the festive rides. Being surrounded by all of these pumpkins gave me that holiday feeling and made me realize that Thanksgiving and Christmas are just around the corner (yikes!) Time flies, so maybe I should start Christmas shopping already?! Scary thought (no Halloween pun intended).

Camo Chic & Burgundy Velvet

As you may have already seen, the military trend had a huge presence all over the runways and now into the blogosphere. In particular the camo print which has now combined with my favorite trend: printed jeans. I must admit, I was unsure on how to dabble in this trend at first until I saw these jeans at Target (yes, I said Target!) for less than $30! I figured I would give this trend a shot by pairing it with one of my favorite recent purchases, these shoes from Lulu*s. These shoes manage to combine 3 big trends for fall: velvet, ankle straps and the color burgundy. I put it together to go out to dinner with my boyfriend and I loved the outcome. I hope you do too!

Burgundy & Leather for Andaz Event

Last week, the lovely Rachel from Da Paura asked me to join her for the "Art and Fashion Collide" event at the Andaz Hotel in downtown San Diego. It started with a cozy setting in the Andaz Wine bar surrounded by abstract art on display and local fashionistas.

We were then escorted to the club area downstairs where we were treated to a fashion show from Maceoo, a local menswear designer (woo hoo for local!). Maceoo showcased an array of men's collared shirts with cool patterned lapels and cuffs. Pictures of the show below, but first what I wore!

Touch of Denim

This hi-low hem, sheer dress has been a go-to dress of mine because of its versatility. You have seen it in in past blog posts dressed up for dinner here and layered here. In this outfit, I wanted to change it up and make it more casual by simply adding a denim vest. This outfit then screamed "give me a pop of color!" which I did with the "futuristic" neon pink necklace and matching lip color. I hope you like it! I will be showing you the remaining looks that I shot with the talented Minh from Mahal Style for the next few days leading up to a video feature about me on Monday!! Minty Comfort

San Diego weather has been playing with our emotions and today it's supposed to go up to a high of 93 degrees! Fall where are you?

Mint was all the rage over summer and I've been noticing its transition into fall. I'm looking forward to transitioning pastels into fall/winter by pairing the colors with darker colored cable knit sweaters, scarves and boots. For now, I just want to show you a girly outfit that I styled for my Mahal Style Photo shoot right before I left for Chicago. I was focused on making outfits comfortable since I would be doing a lot of walking in the city, yet I wanted to remain stylish ;)

Contrast Lapel & Neon

Happy Monday! This week I will be posting the rest of the looks I shot with Mahal Style! All of these looks are leading up to a video about me that was shot in conjunction with these pictures as I "posed" to my dance playlist (a lil Kaskade, Calvin Harris) and also an interview for you all to get to know me a little better. More on that to come, but for now here is this outfit that I put together!

Ever since I bought this contrast lapel blazer (pre-Gangnam Style days might I add), I've had so much fun adding it to random pieces. I figured it would go well with this neon yellow top and some dressy black shorts for a night out. Since the black lapel plays off of the shorts to make it feel like a short suit, you can change up the color of the shirt as an alternative.

Blazer: Charlotte Russe ($43 similar here)

Fashion Week SD Fashion Shows

The press conference, the previews, the pre-events all lead up to a momentous occasion for the fashion community in San Diego. You have heard me talking about Fashion Week San Diego since my interview with the founder Allison back in April to the more recent events, all of which made me ecstatic to finally attend the fashion shows and see these talented designers.

The main event was held at the a prime location in the Gaslamp, The Hard Rock Hotel San Diego. The runway set up in the same area where "Intervention" and its famous DJ's usually rock the house, but this time Fashion rocked the house! Each designer had a unique take within their 10 look collection: From the casual colorfulness of Noia, to gorgeous jewelry pieces, to amazing gowns from both Kenneth Barlis and Andre Soriano, all of the designers shined in their own way. Throughout the event, attendees were able to vote for their favorite designer using the Fashion Week SD app on their smart phone.

It was so hard to narrow the pictures down to my favorite looks, but if you want to see more looks and pictures from the event I have added them to an album on my facebook page (here).

Enjoy!

Let's Talk #DoveInspired

Dove continues to be a pioneer in redefining beauty and self-love. Their #DoveInspired campaign and their aim at young girls is why I wanted to take part in this campaign. I was astounded when I heard these findings from their studies:
  • “72 percent of girls (ages 10-17) feel tremendous pressure to be beautiful [1]”
  • “Only 11 percent of girls (ages 10-17) are comfortable using the word beautiful to describe themselves[2]”
  • “When girls feel bad about their looks more than 60 percent globally (age 15 to 17) avoid normal daily activities such as attending school, going to the doctor, or even giving their opinion[3]”
via Pinterest
Girls are listening – we, as women, need to start the conversation and plant the seed with younger girls who need that guidance.

When I was asked “how would you talk to a young girl about beauty and self-esteem?” I flashed back to when I was that age and how I felt about my appearance. I too fell under that 89% of little girls who wouldn't feel comfortable saying I was beautiful. It wasn't until I was older and more educated that I realized that “beautiful” is not defined by appearance. Looking back, my source of confidence started coming from my education because it remained my priority and it felt good to be good at something. Accomplishing those goals at school boosted my confidence which in turn allowed me to be myself and stand by my own opinions.

My advice to young girls is that beauty is better defined by who you are inside and how kind you are to others and enjoying your childhood. It's not about the clothes you wear or your appearance. What makes us beautiful is being ourselves, not following in the footsteps of celebrities or the “cool girl” at school. Empower yourself with an education, because the power of the brain and hard work will take you further than a mirror!

It’s a concept that as a young girl you might not realize but trust in an elder who has been through it and take our advice: You are beautiful!

Art & Beauty Behind Fashion

Happy Monday! It's been a great weekend of events and news, but it's back to reality! *womp, womp*

Last Wednesday I attended Fashion Week San Diego’s “The Art & Beauty behind Fashion” Event at the W. The event featured talented RAW, Hair and Makeup Artists showcasing their art inspired by parts of San Diego. The ambiance was superb as I was surrounded by fashionable people who dared to take risks on their fashion choices.

San Diego may not be known for fashion, but that doesn't mean we don’t have a fashion community. I felt the sense of community strengthen while meeting bloggers, designers, entrepreneurs, as well as seeing familiar faces all of us different, but sharing the same love for fashion!  Fashion Week San Diego was a great starting point for us and for that I want to thank the organizers Allison and Aimee. Also, the wonderful photographer behind my photo shoot, MahalStyle, debut a behind the scenes mini film about Fashion Week. All of their videos on the designers leading up to the events were very inspiring (check them out here!)

OMG! Find me in Lucky Magazine (Oct 2012 issue!)

Happy Sunday!! About 2 months ago I was contacted by Lucky Magazine asking if they could include a picture they had seen from me on the Lucky Community in their November Issue. After re-reading the email 10 times in disbelief I said OF COURSE!! Here I am 2 months later waiting anxiously! This morning as I was purchasing some bacon and a croissant for this morning's breakfast, I see it the new Lucky Magazine (with fellow Latina Sofia Vergara on the cover) by the cash register! I anxiously opened it and when I saw myself in this magazine I truly admire, I almost cried and let out an "OMG" out loud.

I've developed my career in financial services and never thought I would be doing something like this on the side, but now that I am doing it I understand what it is to be passionate. My advice to you: It's never too late!

Burgundy Break

Happy Friday! It's been Fashion Week for us San Diegans and on Wednesday I had the pleasure of attending the "Beauty meets Art" event at the W. It was so invigorating to be surrounded by local artsy and fashionable people! The recap and pictures of the events to come, as well as the continuation of my Mahal Style photoshoot!

Today I wanted to take a break from all of the hot weather clothes and bring in some burgundy! Many of us in So Cal are experiencing an odd heatwave and for that I have not been able to delve into the rich darker toned fall clothes and boots, but on this day I decided to wear this paired with a burgundy lip for lunch with the boy in an air conditioned restaurant.

Printed Blazer Suit

Happy Monday Everyone! Here is the second look from my photoshoot with Mahal Style.

This one is my going out to dinner look, keep in mind that here in San Diego it's supposed to hit 100 degrees today, so shorts might be a reasonable option! I'm really loving printed blazers because they jazz up an outfit, especially when they have small bursts of color like this one. I decided to pair it up with these black slack material shorts to make it seem like a short suit. Hope you like it and have a great day!

Mahal Style: Starry Night Out

Happy Friday! I'm beyond excited to show you this collaboration with the Mahal Style Creative team. Mahal Style produces amazing pictures and videos for fashion designers, fashionistas, Fashion Week San Diego (see their videos here), the list goes on... which is why I was so honored when they offered me this wonderful opportunity to showcase my favorite looks!

This is my first time doing a photoshoot and video of this nature and not only was it a great learning opportunity but it was an eye-opening experience. To think that when I started this blog I was going to steer away from posting pictures of myself because I was shy and now I'm actually doing a photo shoot?! eek! and yay! at the same time. I'm still learning more natural poses and better angles (as I'm totally not a model) so bear with me on my journey to better picture-taking. I want to thank my cousin Erika a.k.a. "primager" for keeping my looks organized, helping me with my hair and make up which was very much needed with a rookie like me.

And now..... Look #1: When I put this look together I was thinking a night out in downtown with my girls! Stars + Hot Pink+ Bling = girly sexy :)

Bold Red Peplum

Happy Tuesday!! I think the Vegas haze has finally worn off and I can elaborately explain why I went to Vegas! The occasion was the celebration of Mexican Independence weekend! I have been asked "why Vegas and not Mexico?" and to be quite honest I don't know why, all I know is that Mexicans from the U.S. and Mexico alike flock to Las Vegas during this weekend. It might be because the most famous of Mexican artists have concerts in Vegas that weekend (Luis Miguel, Alejandro Fernandez, Santana, Mana, to name a few) and/or this year there were two boxing matches involving Mexican boxers: Canelo and Chavez Jr. My boyfriend and I purchased some last minute boxing match tickets and away we went. Needless to say it was a great weekend of celebration and madness.

As you may have seen I'm really loving the peplum trend as can be seen here (my birthday), here (a baptism) and most recently here. Well, here's another peplum dress! This time I chose a bold red to match the Mexican flag ;)

Vegas is the perfect opportunity for me to wear something I can't see myself wearing in San Diego because it's all about the glitz, sparkle and a touch of skimpiness (keyword: touch). In my case it came in the form of this sheer inset Sequin dress! Yes, ladies and gentlemen I would not wear this in San Diego but you better bet I'll rock it in Vegas a.k.a. Sin City, USA.

On this day we went to XS nightclub located inside the gorgeous Encore. At about 1:45am (yes am!) Avicii came on to play and rocked the house! It's crazy that these DJ's come on so late though, by then half the club is drunk and won't remember his performance the next day, another 15% are exhausted and the rest are girls whose feet are killing them (like me!)... Regardless, I love me some house music so I was loving Avicii and the atmosphere just that I wish he had started a little earlier. Any who, hope you like the outfit and stay tuned as I share more looks from Vegas!

SwimSpot Cover Up in Vegas

Happy Sunday! I just got home from a weekend trip to Vegas and I am so excited to share all of the outfits involved! To start, I wanted to show you this chic and versatile "cover up" (yes, I said cover up!) from SwimSpot.com that I wore to go shopping. SwimSpot is a one-stop shop for swimwear with an array of designer brands, cover ups, dresses, a bikini builder and better yet, a fit specialist! I know what you're thinking "aren't we already heading into fall?" which is something I considered when I was picking out a piece, but SwimSpot has a variety of coverups that can easily act as tops to a fall outfit. I will definitely "fall up" this "cover up" next season (ok I think I'm done with the quotation marks I promise ;) )!
